Derrise Garner, Psy.D.
Dr. Garner is a licensed psychologist originally from Riverton, Kansas. Earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Pittsburg State University, she graduated magna cum laude in 1993 from Forest Institute with a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. She completed her internship at Burrell Behavioral Health in Springfield, Missouri, receiving training in evaluations and therapy with child, adult, and geriatric clients. She completed her residency at Community Mental Health Consultants in Nevada, Missouri, gaining additional training in treatment of persons having co-occurring substance dependence and mental health needs.

With extensive clinical and management experience in inpatient, outpatient, residential, and forensic settings, Dr. Garner has served her profession in the following positions: Administrator of a group home for seriously emotionally disturbed children and psychologist for persistently mentally ill adults, both with Burrell Behavioral Health, Springfield, Missouri, Chief Psychologist and Clinical

Director, Provident Counseling's Central Intake Unit, St. Louis, Missouri, Manager of Inpatient Services, Magellan Behavioral Health Services, Maryland Heights, Missouri. In addition, she has served as Psychologist with Southeast Missouri Mental Health Center's Forensic Unit and Farmington Correctional Center, both in Farmington, Missouri, and has provided consultations, expert opinions, and court testimony for the Missouri Attorney General's Office. Within these varied settings, Dr. Garner designed and implemented specialty groups and/or programming for abuse and trauma recovery, abuse cessation and prevention, anger management and assertiveness training, dual diagnosis relapse prevention, classes for persons having serious and persistent mental illnesses and their families, and stress reduction seminars.

Returning to the four-state area, Dr. Garner joined Herndon Snider and Associates in 2006. As well as conducted psychological evaluations for all ages and providing individual, family, and group therapy, Dr. Garner is also available for community speaking engagements on myriad mental health related topics.
